OITI MOUNTAIN BIKE - MAVROLITHARI
MARATHON RACE (58km D+2500m)
The Start and Finish of the race takes place at the village of Mavrolithari (altitude 1140m) at the southern foothills of Oiti and the entire route is through fir-covered forest roads and paths.
From the magnificent square of the village we go up a forest road to Pr. Elias. At 4.3km at the "Smaili" location we enter a path and meet a water source on our right. The almost flat path after 500m leads us to a forest road which we follow to the east. At 9km we again enter a path that will lead us to the location "Katavothra". We enjoy the famous meadows of Oiti with a view of Vardousia and climb slightly. We enter a path at the base of the "XerovounI" peak and descend north. The path ends quickly and we initially reach a small forest road leading downhill to a main dirt road.
We follow it downhill again and leave him at 22.3km. Turn left onto a path for 200m, uphill and then downhill. Stunning with dense fir trees it requires endurance on the rider as it is 1.5km. We reach a small recreation area at 24km where there is a spring with running water. We continue for another 200m on a flat path and come out on a forest road that goes right (north) on a slightly downhill path. Entering the village of Koumaristsi, on the asphalt on the right we meet again stone fountains with water (25km). At 25.2km we are at the end of the asphalt at a view point with the sea of Maliakos and Mount Othrys.
We go uphill on a central forest road following the signs (ignoring smaller lanes) and at 27.8 km we turn left downhill on a path for 1600m. At an altitude of 650m at 29.4km we reach a dirt road on which we go right (south) uphill towards the village of Pauliani. We pass the center of the village at 38.5 km. (water tap) We continue uphill and pass to the east from the Xerovouni peak (1816m) reaching the "Fire of Herakleos" 46km (altitude 1560m). We enter a downhill path for 2.9km and cross a vertical asphalt road (be careful here). We continue and reach the village of Pyra (water in a tap) at 50km/ We continue carefully on the asphalt road west and at 52.4km we turn left (south) onto a downhill dirt road. In 2km we turn right (west) and go on a forest road in the direction of Mavrolithari. We reach the south of the village and go uphill to finish in its square after 58km.
